Join us for supper in the Kringen Kafe (served from 5:00 – 6:30 pm) and then a free cultural presentation at 6:30 pm. Presentation by Markus Krueger
Trolls are fun fairy tale monsters that are so ugly they’re cute. But these fairy tales are based on legends of creepy magical monsters in the woods who want to kidnap you and eat you. We will explore both the lovable and frightening sides of trolls through the artwork of Thomas Dambo’s Detroit Lakes area troll sculptures, the murals of Fargo’s Sons of Norway Troll Lounge, Fargo-Moorhead’s unique Hardanger fiddle traditions, and more.
Markus Krueger is the Research Historian at the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County. He has been working at the museum at the Hjemkomst Center for almost 20
years now. Markus studies and presents topics on local history and cultural heritages, and he is part of a museum team that wins national awards for their exhibits. He is also an artist. His most recent obsession is building Hardanger fiddles along with master luthier Bud Larsen and the Fargo Spelemannslag. His first completed fiddle has a troll carved in it, and he will bring it to the
presentation. Hopefully, someone in the audience knows how to play the thing. He and his wife Megan and their cat Inga live in Moorhead.
