🌊 triSKILLZ SURFBREAKER 2026 🌊
4-Week Surf Swimming Training Block
Getting ready for the EVES Surfbreaker Triathlon? This four-week triSKILLZ block is designed to build your confidence and surf swimming skills, taking you from the basics through to a full Surfbreaker course recce on the final night.
Across the four sessions, we’ll progressively build your skills and confidence in the ocean:
🌊 Week 1 | Wednesday 2 December | Surf Basics
Learn how to read the conditions, approach the waves, get through the break and return to shore with confidence.
🏊 Week 2 | Wednesday 9 December | Wave Skills
Work on timing your entry, handling waves and chop, body positioning and finding your rhythm once you’re through the break.
🏁 Week 3 | Wednesday 16 December | Race Skills
Bring it all together with triathlon-specific skills including race starts, sighting, swimming around others, buoy turns and choosing your line through the course.
🔍 Week 4 | Wednesday 23 December | Surfbreaker Course Recce
The dress rehearsal! We’ll head out onto the Surfbreaker swim course, putting your new skills into practice and looking at the course, landmarks, entry and exit points, navigation and race-day strategy.
🙌 Who: Beginners through to experienced swimmers welcome. If you’re nervous or lack confidence in the surf, let your coach know when you arrive. We’re here to help you feel more comfortable in the ocean, not throw you straight into the washing machine!
📍 Meet: Main Beach Toilet Block, Mount Maunganui, towards Leisure Island
Please note: we meet at the toilet block, not the Surf Club.
⏰ Time: Ready for a 6:00pm start
💙 FREE for current Triathlon Tauranga members
Adult membership: $75/year | Youth membership: $50/year
