ABOUT TRIPPY HEARTS AND ‘MURMURATION’:
Trippy Hearts’ second album “Murmuration” is an exploration of not being destroyed by a world that feels like it’s falling apart, and what three people can forge together in the face of it, carried by the band’s lush, hypnotic and noir-leaning sound.
The band has played their way through a few years of illnesses, losses and things falling out of the sky. They’re thrilled to have these songs materialize here on Earth. It’s a record for anyone finding their way through grief or uncertainty—anyone putting themselves together and wondering if something worthwhile can come from it.
Murmuration will be released June 5 on My My Records.
Robert Frost writes, “The best way out is always through,” and “Murmuration” leans into that idea—moving through pain and change rather than around them.
The title “Murmuration” references the movement of starlings—hundreds swirling together to create intricate patterns, sometimes to evade predators and sometimes for reasons we don’t fully understand. In much the same way, the band continues to create together through hard times and joy because it feels right.
“Murmuration” was recorded primarily with Wyatt Jarsky, with additional tracks recorded by Z.V. House in Boise. It was mixed by Lilian Blair and mastered by Rachel Field at Resonant Mastering in Seattle. Artwork is by Ryan Donahue from a photo by Sjoerd van der Wal and band photo by December Gonzaga.
The eight-song record builds on the band’s spacious, noir-leaning sound, anchored by Rhodes, keys, guitar and dynamic drums.
Trippy Hearts—Jenn Sutkowski (Rhodes, keys, vocals), Brent Heiner (guitar, harmonies) and Stephen Samuelson (drums)—have built a reputation for entrancing live performances, sharing stages with Blonde Redhead, King Hannah, awakebutstillinbed, Night Palace and Greet Death, as well as numerous Boise bands.
The album follows a series of singles, including “Sweet Crash" and "Impossible Current," and marks a step forward in both clarity and confidence for the group.
