Join us for a triple book launch featuring three local authors - Eve Joseph, Patrick Friesen and M.A.C. Farrant! You can enjoy a wonderful night of poetry and profound storytelling, meet the authors in person, and get your books signed. Don't miss this exciting literary event!In Eve Joseph's latest book, Dismantling, the poet is occupied with the idea of poetic imagination and how that often elusive thing can transform the mundane into the mysterious. It contains new works of prose poetry, along with a series of centos – poems build entirely on the lines of other poets. Old voices engage with new ones. Tomas Tranströmer and Ocean Vuong speak about a great unsolved love while Audre Lorde walks with Ahmad Almallah and César Vallejo as the grass bends, then learns to stand again. Joseph's poems are about language; how lonely it is until time enters the poem and places it where it is meant to be.
In Patrick Friesen’s new book, Sightings, the poems move between the visible and invisible, between the contradictions of human history and the immediacy of a complex present. He examines memory and music, rivers and personalities, open to all possibilities and skeptical of wisdom. This book marks a half century of poetry collections by Patrick Friesen!
M.A.C. Farrant's new memoir, Seventy-Two Seasons, is inspired by the Japanese practice of celebrating one feature in nature every five days, creating seventy-two seasons instead of four, Farrant embarks on a yearlong mission to focus her attention on the small spellbinding changes around her. With her signature humour, she skilfully blends observations, meditations, literary references, memoir, essay-ettes and arcane facts as she explores the natural world.
