Trio Louise Farrenc: Exploring Music Past and Present Present
About this Event
Pamela Pecko Smith, Una Birtchnell and Gisela Mayer: Trio Louise Farrenc, presents an afternoon of exploring chamber music past and present. The exciting combination of strings wind and keyboard has been explored for many centuries- one only has to think of Bach’s Brandenburg concertos, and more recently Reich's landmark piece 'Variations for Winds, Strings, and Keyboards', written in 1979 .
This concert will help give a broader picture of works inspired by these instruments and how composers have treated the unusual and rich possibilities of this particular blend of instruments. One of Trio Louise Farrenc's aims is to feature music written by female composers. This concert will be book-ended by two women composers, Louise Farrenc and Ya-Jhu Yang, among other exciting works for flute, cello, and piano.
