About Trey Gonzalez
There's a lot more than what meets the eye with Texas Country Artist Trey Gonzalez—known as “The Son of the Alamo” and the self-proclaimed “Dark Horse of Country Music.” From his worn hat and boots, dark brown eyes, and light-hearted smile, you’d never guess the deep ambition burning in this young cowboy’s heart… or that he balances a thriving music career with his day job as a research psychologist for the U.S. Air Force.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Trey grew up listening to country music in his ’01 Ford F-150, singing along to George Strait and Alan Jackson. As he got older, he gravitated toward the sounds of Eric Church, Easton Corbin, Luke Bryan, and Cody Johnson. He broke into the Texas Country scene during his senior year at St. Mary’s University, hitting open mics and stages across San Antonio and the surrounding area. Soon after forming his band, he self-produced and released his debut project, The Journey (2018). The 8-track collection—including the charting single “Here I Am,” which peaked at No. 54 on the Texas Country Music Chart and No. 97 on the Texas Regional Radio Report—served as the perfect stepping stone, landing him bigger venues and building his early fanbase.
“The Journey really allowed me to get a sense of what I really wanted to be as an artist and the direction I wanted to grow in over the next few years,” said Gonzalez.
His career shifted into high gear during his time at Texas A&M University (where he earned his psychology degree in 2019 and was a proud Aggie grad student). As a love letter to Aggieland, he dropped the EP Welcome to the Home of the 12th Man (2019), complete with a War Hymn edition that quickly earned him die-hard support from Aggies across the Lone Star State. He now serves as the Young Aggie Coordinator for the San Antonio A&M Club and helps host their annual “Boot Scootin’ For Scholarships” fundraiser, bringing fellow Texas country artists together to raise money for future Aggies.
Trey’s sound took a big leap forward with his first full-length album, Good Thing Going (released August 20, 2021 via Smith Music). Recorded in Music City, the 12-track sophomore effort blends his traditional roots with a polished, modern Texas Country edge. Standouts include the co-written single “Down Like This” (Bart Butler and Brad Tursi), along with radio-ready cuts like “Neon Queen,” “Windows Down,” “Every Little Bit of That,” and heartfelt tracks such as “Missing Me Missing You” and the title cut. The album cemented him as a mainstay on the Texas circuit.
Since then, Trey has kept the momentum rolling with fresh singles: Barely Breathing and Break Up Better (both 2024), plus his latest release Still Losing Sleep (January 20, 2026)—a co-write that he’s already showcasing live. In summer 2025 he headed back to Nashville to record more new music, and fans can expect at least one more single in 2026. He writes from real life: “I usually like to write about experiences that I’ve had or experiences I would like to have… music that can bring us all together.”
