About this Event
The essence of this event is to guide students on tours of the Trent Wildlife Sanctuary along Pioneer Rd. and University Rd. There will be two separate walking tours occurring over a period of 4 hours, the first starting at 1pm and the second starting around 2:30pm. We will be leading with a ceremony at the Camp Kawartha tipi where Elder Dorothy Taylor from Curve lake First Nation will be sharing drum songs and teachings. Ceremony will be held before each of the walks. After/at the end of the ceremony participants will be given semaa to offer during the walk. Walks on the land will occur on a mix of the yellow and blue trails through the Trent Wildlife Sanctuary as to ensure accessibility, and will be headed by Inwendaamin Oki and staff from Camp Kawartha. On the walk we plan on introducing students/participants to different plants/trees/beings and places in this space. We will spend time to ensure everyone has the chance to create and develop a relationship with these lands. Once the walks have been completed we will return to the tipi so everyone can collect their things and head back to Trent. We plan on livestreaming the walks on our instagram page for accessibility reasons. Food will also be provided around the tipi area for participants, to eat before or after the walk. We plan on each walk taking between 1 hour and 1.5 hours, including the ceremony. We look forward to seeing you there!!
Due to the rise in Covid 19, masks are encouraged to help protect each other.
This event will also be accessible through instagram live!
