Students will learn the basics of planting a tree and when to do so. They will be given step by step instructions on preparing the hole for the tree, what to do with the cage/burlap and mounding. Come prepared to get dirty!

Presenter: Chad Shelby has been studying Horticulture since 2018. He completed his A.A.S. in Horticulture and is currently pursuing his B.S. in Agriculture Education. Before entering Horticulture, he was in the U.S. Army for 10 years, where he served as an Infantryman. Over the years, he has gained experience in adult education, viticulture, project management, irrigation, and greenhouse/nursery management. He has been the project manager for several pro bono projects, specifically ones that involve Non-Profits like The C.A.R.E Clinic and St. John’s Episcopal Church. His work includes The Staff garden at the C.A.R.E. Clinic, Community Patriot Arts Connection Veteran’s Garden, and building the Daylily Garden at Cape Fear Botanical Garden.
