Tree planting at Duryard

We have been working to enhance the woodlands at the base of Duryard Valley! There were a lot of invasive plant species present in the woodland. We have had them removed, and now we would like to replant with some native species which will be much better for wildlife.

Please come and join us in Duryard Valley on Wednesday 25th March, between 12:30 and 14:30

This is a drop in session - so if you can't stay for the full session, feel free to drop in when you can!

We will be slot planting (using a spade to create a slot in the soil) small whips, adding a tree guard. We may not need any mulch here as the invasive species have been chipped!

If you would like to wield a spade or wheelbarrow for two hours, enjoy fresh air and get a gentle workout while helping biodiversity please sign up. No previous experience needed, full instructions will be given.

What to bring:

• Warm, weather appropriate clothing, and sturdy footwear such as wellies or walking boots/shoes – it is pretty muddy at present and it is likely you will get muddy as well.

• A drink of water/snacks/lunch for after

• Any Medic*tion that may be required (e.g. asthma inhaler, auto injector)

• Waterproofs

• Gardening gloves if you have them (we will supply if you don’t)

• If you wish to wear eye protection to keep poking twigs away, please bring your own.

Please note that there are no facilities on site so you might want to bring water for rinsing hands.

Any under 18s may come along but will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Please use public transport or walk where you can – but there is University parking near the site, requiring a permit.

Meeting point:

We will meet in the woodland. Follow the surfaced path indicated in yellow, cross a small bridge and we will be in the woodland to your right, planting area circled in yellow.
