Treasures of the Pharaohs: de Young Exhibition

Get introduced to this major and extraordinary international exhibition which showcases objects ranging from monumental granite statues to intricate gold jewelry, each highlighting the wealth and complexity of ancient Egyptian civilization. Spanning 3,000 years of history, the exhibition demonstrates Egypt’s social hierarchy from the pharaoh to his family, high officials, beliefs, gods, and views of death and the afterlife. The objects represent the daily life and the views of those who served the pharaohs, offering insight into Egyptian society, its beliefs, and its artistic achievements. These lovely works, many never seen before in this country, demonstrate how beauty and refinement shaped life beyond the pharaoh’s circle, and how even the humblest objects could be elegantly designed, functional, and beautiful. 

Christina Crosby graduated in Art History from Pomona College. After attending Loyola Law School and a 30-year legal career focused on helping public agencies and non-profit organizations raise money for capital projects through the issuance of bonds, she returned to her first love of Art History by entering the Docent program at the Fine Arts Museums in 2011.   

In addition to giving lectures throughout the Bay Area, Christina shares her love of art with museum visitors at both the de Young and Legion of Honor. She also loves to travel, with museums always a featured part of the itinerary.

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) are comprised of two iconic sites in San Francisco’s beautiful parks- the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park and Legion of Honor Museum in Lincoln Park.  

As the largest public arts institution in the western United States, the Museums house a world-class collection of 151,000 artworks that span more than 5,000 years.
