Chewacla State Park – Saturday, August 15th (or 14th-16th for the weekend)
TMBA’s 2026 Travel Club Trip #4…
The Travel Club is designed as a group ride outside of our local trails. The idea is to get a group of riders together that would like to experience riding in a different terrain. This could be as short of a day trip, such as to Forever Wild Trails in Dothan, AL, or as long as a weekend trip to Chattanooga, TN.
For this event, we’re taking our bikes to Chewacla State Park on Saturday, August 15th. Chewacla is located in Auburn, AL and has so much to offer. There is roughly 20+ miles of trails here, including various types of terrain and features throughout. The plans are to explore the awesome trails, spend some time on the jump line and dual slalom, and then BBQ at the lake.
This can be either a day or weekend trip, the choice is yours (I’ll be there for the weekend!). It’s roughly a 4-hour drive there, so I advise leaving very early if you plan on just riding for the day. Also, keep in mind that you lose an hour getting there, but will gain it on the drive back. We will be spending at around 3+ hours on the trails. We’ll stop for a lunch break around 1:00 or so, determine whether we’d rather ride some more or swim, and then go from there. No one is obligated to stay for the weekend, but if you’re willing to have some fun out there, you might as well take it all in.
If you plan to stay for the weekend, there are camp sites and cabins at the State Park. If that doesn’t appeal to you, there are several hotels outside the perimeter that you can choose to stay at. Lodging is provided by the attendee and those parties are responsible for making their own reservations. TMBA will NOT be involved in providing a place to stay for this event.
How do we get there?...
Transportation will be by your own vehicle. Obviously, we encourage carpooling to save on expenses – please take into account that you may need to leave earlier, or possibly stay later, and be tethered to someone else’s driving will. The drive typically takes 3.5 to 4 hours, so I advise leaving Tally around 0530 – Keep in mind that there is a 1-hour time difference (CST). Please plan your arrival time to be between 0915 and 0930 EST (wheels will be rolling by 0945 EST). You are responsible for your own gas and vehicle insurance during travel.
What are these trails like?...
This 20+ mile system of trails brings a fun, flowy level of riding. While there, you fill face a little bit of everything on their trails: rock rolls, drops, flowy berms, jumps, a wall ride, and plenty of other cool features. There are a couple pretty techy trails here (black diamond), so please ride within your limits. Most of the trails fast, flowy trails, with a mix of descents and climbs thrown in there. What should I expect from this group?...
This is expected to be a no drop ride that will, based on the number of riders and skill set. Depending on the number of guides, we may be broken into two separate groups, A and B. The leaders will be people who have actually ridden here and that are somewhat oriented with the trail and its routes, and a designated sweep. We will ALL be taking the same route, just meeting up at predetermined locations before moving on. The entire trail system is roughly 20+ miles long, so we will do one lap with stops, recover at the trailhead. Once done, the groups will meet back at the TH for some down time to recover, and then disband for the day. It is your choice on whether you join us for a cookout or you go for lunch for the day. This would also be a great time to determine if you’d rather just head back home.
What do I need for this trip?...
You will be required to provide your own bike (e-bikes are permitted), a helmet, snacks for the trail, and hydration (lots of it!). I highly recommend a hydration pack and extra gallons of water. There are bathrooms there if you’d like to bring a change of clothes for post ride, or if you’d like to go for a swim in the lake or creeks.
