A training for yoga teachers and interested students who wish to bring a more intentional and beneficial yoga experience to trauma survivors.
This is a 16-hour trauma-informed yoga teacher training for yoga teachers who wish to bring a more intentional and beneficial yoga class to trauma survivors. This will be Carrie’s third time facilitating this training and the first time it will be offered ONLINE to reach more yoga teachers around the globe with this critical information.
This training will be available in person, live online, or as a self-paced online course. You'll be asked to specify which version of the training you are registering for when you sign up.
Live trauma-informed yoga teacher training dates:
SATURDAY and SUNDAY | December 13 & 14 | 9am-6:30pm (Includes 1.5 hours of break time for meals and snacks)
Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training Cost: $360
This training will provide yoga teachers with an in-depth understanding of the human nervous system and how different types of trauma affect all of us. Learn about PTSD and the difference between “Big T” trauma and “little t” trauma. Analyze cultural, societal, and economic factors contributing to inequity in common yoga spaces and beyond. We'll then explore the science and evidence behind body-based healing modalities such as yoga. We'll then explore the science and evidence behind body-based healing modalities such as yoga, including many participatory body, breath, and mindfulness-based micro-practices interspersed throughout the 2-day training. Teachers will first be students and then practice facilitating trauma-informed yoga classes, understand how trauma-informed yoga classes may be different from studio classes, and come away with important skills to apply to teaching yoga in any setting.
This training will include lectures with note taking encouraged, discussion time, example classes, small group work, practice teaching, and a final teaching assessment.
This training is open to yoga teachers and non-yoga teachers who are interested. Learning how to create safe spaces and communicate skillfully with traumatized people are valuable skills that all of us should have. If registered with Yoga Alliance, you'll receive 16 continuing education hours.
Facilitated by:
Your guide, Carrie Hoffman, has been teaching trauma-informed yoga for 7+ years and incorporates trauma-sensitive techniques into all of her classes. Her trauma-informed yoga training was through Prison Yoga Project and Yoga Ed. Carrie has been the head teacher and program manager of the Flagstaff Juvenile Detention Center's yoga program for six years. She's also taught at youth shelters, schools, sober livings, studios, festivals, teacher trainings, and on many of her own recovery-oriented retreats! Carrie ran her first trauma-informed yoga teacher training in 2023, and loves helping yoga teachers and wellness professionals grow their knowledge to serve more.
