About this Event
Event Synopsis
Children and adolescents carry their trauma in their bodies and their brains — and the clinicians working with them need tools that match that complexity. This hands-on workshop equips you with a neuroscience-informed, evidence-based framework for trauma treatment with children and adolescents.
Led by one of Us Therapy's principal psychologists, Kate Minosora, you'll move through theory and into practical application — leaving with skills you can bring directly into your next session.
What we'll cover:
The Neurobiology of Trauma
Understand how chronic childhood trauma reshapes the developing brain — over-sensitising the amygdala (the brain's alarm system) and undermining the prefrontal cortex's capacity for emotional regulation and executive function. This foundation changes how you see your young clients' behaviour.
Trauma-Focused CBT — Processing the Past
Using the evidence-based PRACTICE protocol, learn how to help children safely externalise traumatic memories through a Trauma Narrative — systematically uncoupling the memory from the body's conditioned fear response, so the past loses its grip on the present.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy — Empowering the Present
Apply the Hexaflex model to shift a child's relationship with pain — from avoidance to psychological flexibility. Through cognitive defusion and values-based action, help your clients build a meaningful life that isn't defined by what happened to them.
Whether you're new to trauma work or looking to sharpen your practice, this workshop offers a clear, integrated approach to one of the most important areas in child and adolescent mental health.
