Trauma-Informed Coaching: What to Know, Notice and Do to Serve All Clients

Do you find your clients struggling in new ways with work and life? Are your traditional techniques and tools not working? Do you want to coach more clients with marginalized identities?

It may be that a trauma-informed approach to coaching is what you need. Trauma goes beyond a single horrific event that occurred in the past – it also includes unrelenting stress like unrealistic workplace expectations or slow burns like a pandemic or economic uncertainty.

The truth is everyone has some level of trauma – including c-suite leaders! Trauma-informed coaching isn't "trauma coaching", it's just better coaching for *all* clients. Being trauma-informed is now a must-have for all coaches. (Read my article about it!)

Week 1: What to Know (October 1, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm Pacific Time)

• What is trauma, really? Who suffers from it?
• What are the 8 different human responses to stress?
• What are some of the relevant scientific models and recent discoveries?

Week 2: What to Notice (October 8, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm Pacific Time)

• How does trauma show up in coaching clients' lives?
• How does trauma show up during coaching sessions?
• What does it mean to be a trauma-informed coach?

Week 3: What to Do (October 15, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm Pacific Time)

• How do I apply the 6 principles of trauma informed care?
• When should I decline to work with a client?
• What must I do differently, or better?

In all sessions, you will have the opportunity for reflection, discussion, application, and personal action planning. Each session will include the teaching of one practice to help you settle your own nervous system, and there will be short optional assignments between sessions.

Sessions will be recorded, so if you miss one, you can catch up on the content later!

Course provides 4.5 Continuing Coach Education units (CCEs) with ICF for credentialed coaches (3 in core competencies). In-person attendance is required to receive CCEs and partial credit is available.
