Trauma Informed Care & Substance Use Disorders: NBCC EVENT
About this Event
This training provides clinicians with a practical framework for recognizing and responding to trauma across the full range of clients they serve, including individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders, survivors of childhood adversity, families in crisis, and clients navigating complex or long-standing histories of harm. Participants will learn the core principles of trauma-informed care and how to apply them in everyday clinical decision-making rather than treating them as abstract values.
Attendees will explore the spectrum of trauma, from acute single-incident events to chronic, developmental, and complex presentations, and examine how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) shape later health, behavior, and substance use. Particular attention is given to how trauma is commonly missed or misread in substance use treatment settings, and why symptoms are frequently attributed to the addiction rather than to what preceded it.
Drawing from current research and evidence-based assessment frameworks, this workshop equips participants with concrete screening and assessment strategies alongside intervention approaches that build safety, restore trust, and support sustained recovery. Attendees will leave with practical tools they can immediately integrate into their practice, regardless of their theoretical orientation or level of experience.
Longleaf Recovery and Wellness has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7709.
