About this Event
Research has shown that there is a connection between trauma and suicide. Simply put: Clients who have experienced trauma may also experience suicidal ideation or planning at some point. This training day will give you hands-on experience in putting some of the theory in practice. We will cover risk factors and protective factors related to suicide, but also how it connects to trauma.
This training brings in a "live client" (a safe actress, who is also a PhD qualified mental health professional), so that we can actively practice with some of the theory. We will put the 3 steps of a 1st conversation into practice:
1. Say the words (E.g. "Are you telling me you don't want to live?")
2. Explore the risk (suicidal ideation vs. planning)
3. Safety planning
Whilst exploring the world of the client, what is going on for them in a safe way, we will also monitor for any signs of dysregulation, so that we can increase therapeutic safety for the client. The focus will also be heavily on our own safety and regulation, as this is a key part in co-regulation (one of the principles of polyvagal theory). After all, therapeutic safety starts with us as professionals! The group learns together as a whole, rather than an individual taking on the session.
This training is experiential in nature. This means you will have the chance to discuss and practice with some of the things we will be covering. The training is suitable for both student and qualified counsellors, psychotherapists and hypnotherapists, as well as related professions.
This Training Day can be taken on its own, or as the 6th training day as part of the NCPS Quality Checked 10-day Foundation Diploma - Therapeutic Safety in Trauma. It is taught 100% Online.
