About this Event

*Please note: there is no requirement to first attend Level 1 training before joining this session*

Being "trauma informed" means being able to recognise when someone may be affected by trauma, collaboratively adjusting how we work to take this into account and responding in a way that supports recovery, does no harm and recognises and supports people's resilience.

To support Inverclyde's ambition to become a trauma informed and responsive local authority, a Trauma Skilled (Level 2) training programme is available to all staff working in Inverclyde. This Trauma Skilled training programme takes a blended learning approach and is composed of 3 stages:

1) Completion of at least module 1 of the NTTP Trauma Skilled e-modules (1.25 hours): Developing your Trauma Skilled Practice: Understanding the Impact of Trauma and Responding in a Trauma Informed Way

2) Attending a "Transforming Connections: Trauma Skilled Practice" in-person training (7 hours)

3) Attending a follow-up reflective and facilitated peer-support session (2 hours)

Completion of all 3 stages is strongly encouraged to ensure you are able to get the most from this process. If you are registering to attend a Transforming Connections in-person training, please ensure you have been authorised to protect time for the additional learning and reflection.

About Transforming Connections: Trauma Skilled Practice Training

This full-day session is aimed at anyone who is likely to come into contact with people who have experienced trauma, whether trauma is known about or not. The session may also be helpful for anyone who already has a baseline knowledge of trauma informed practice and may be looking to expand your skills and reflect on your practice.

This session aims to help attendees to understand:

  • Defining and recognising the prevalence of trauma
  • Ways that trauma can affect people, including impact on brain, body and behaviour
  • What trauma informed pracitce is and how to foster trauma informed professional relationships
  • How to support people following traumatic events and help recovery
  • The importance of caring for our own well being

Please note: We know that traumatic experiences are common. During this event, traumatic experiences will not be talked about in detail, and you will not be asked to share any personal experiences of trauma. However, topics discussed in the session can be emotive for many people, so please do consider your own wellbeing during and after the session.
