Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asulum Historic Tour

Did you know that North America's largest handcut sandstone building is a retired Kirkbride asylum down in Weston, WV?
About this Event

Located about an hour hourside of Morgantown WV, this asylum which was built for about 250 patients had over 1,500 at its peak.

At one point in its history, the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, then known as Weston State Hospital, also had a Tuberculosis Sanatorium, one of three in the state of WV.

This 90 minute tour will take you through all four floors of this massive buidling introducing you to the asylums history, various treatments for the sick and mentally ill, and the tragedy that came from the various policy changes which over institutionalized and undersupported care for the sickest among us.

Bus transportation to and from Weston WV and entry to the facilty will be covered by the WVU Honors College.
