Training: Kubernetes - Containerisation and Deployment Automation

Familiar with containers in general, and considering taking those first steps to deploy using Kubernetes. Does this sound like you? Maybe you’ve got access to a cluster already and you’re not sure where to start?

You’ll get hands-on experience deploying and troubleshooting a very simple app. We'll show you how declarative configuration lets you make broad changes easily, and revert those just as quickly.

Knowledge you will take away:

• What Kubernetes is and how it fits into a cloud-native architecture
• Where Kubernetes is useful (and where it isn’t)
• Deploying and configuring an application onto Kubernetes
• Basic Kubernetes troubleshooting

This course is especially relevant to developers who work with container-based applications and are keen to learn more about cloud native infrastructure. If you have an operations background and would like to learn about deploying containerised apps at scale, this session is also for you.

You should already have basic familiarity with containers and with using a container development tool such as Docker or Podman for local development.

Prerequisites

You will need to be able to install and manage the following software on your device:

• Kubectl
• Minikube
• AWS CLI

A final few things:

Install the AWS CLI and SSM session manager plugin.

Access to an AWS account with infrastructure to practice on will be provided.

No prior Kubernetes experience is necessary. Although we'll use AWS as a platform, this training is relevant to using Kubernetes on any cloud provider or even on-premises.
