Join us for Preservation Rocky Mount's Annual Membership meeting where we will be hosting a walking tour of the Helen P Gay Rocky Mount Historic Train Station and the Historic Railway Express Agency building/Bus Station.
Come learn how the railroad defined and shaped Rocky Mount's history, growth, and landscapes over the past 150+ years!
This tour will cover:
-the movement of the train station location coinciding with the growth patterns of Rocky Mount
-see its expansions over the years and separation into two agencies
-learn about the historic features and characteristics of the buildings
-how it influenced growth and economic development in downtown
-the massive restoration project undertaken by the city
- a look at the historic Pullman passenger rail car
-we are hoping to get upstairs in the train station, but that is TBD
On Sunday, March 15th from 2pm to 4pm, we will have Peter Varney, longtime Assistant City Manager for the city of Rocky Mount, leading us on a history tour of these buildings. This will be a walking tour and mostly outside. Please dress accordingly. There will be some steps.
We will run the tour RAIN OR SHINE!
Just show up! We'll be there!!
We will also hold a brief membership meeting where we will vote in new PRM board members. If you are interested in joining our board of directors, please message us, or email [email protected]
