From the outside, too many people knew her but none in quite the same way. She loved the clubs and carefully crafted different personas for each one. There was a place where she spoke to no one. Another where everyone asked about her. One where she always seemed to find love. And yet another where she’d always get caught up in fights—plus many more. Each Friday night, a cab would carry one persona to whichever club she’d chosen five minutes before. Then each Saturday morning, a different cab would take her back to the modest studio apartment she owned on the periphery. A single bed, a table with one chair, a cold steel clothing rack on which her clothes hung clumsily and a dusty mirror quietly waited inside. Her neighbors didn’t know her, and no one ever came looking. And that was how she preferred it.
