About this Event
We’ll be visiting several past mining and exploration sites where sinkholes, rusting artifacts, waste rock, and open pits tell the story of mining in the Copper Belt and its lasting impact on the boreal ecosystem in the area. Tim Green will guide the walk and discuss the intricate relationships and trade-offs between mining, water resources, and wildlife over time.
🗓️ Two dates available: Saturday Sept 14th or Saturday Sept 21st, 10-3pm
📍 Near Copper Haul Road, exact meeting place shared after registration
The historic Whitehorse Copper Belt was first discovered in 1897 and actively mined primarily between 1967 and 1982. See for yourself how mining transformed these areas, and what the future might have in store for the Copper Belt.
