About this Event
The Center for Research and Mentoring for Black Male Students and Teachers at Bowie State University invites you to an extraordinary evening celebrating five nationally recognized Black male leaders and researchers who are trailblazing paths for future generations. As part of Black History Month, this event will honor their groundbreaking contributions to education, leadership, and advocacy.
What to Expect
This special evening will feature:
✨ Dynamic Panel Discussion – Engage with nationally recognized influential thought leaders as they discuss their work's impact and vision for the future
✨ Trailblazers for Black Male Educators Awards – Recognizing the remarkable achievements of Black male leaders and educators
✨ Reception – An opportunity to connect, reflect, and celebrate in fellowship.
These trailblazers represent the pinnacle of research, leadership, and advocacy, paving the way for the next generation of Black male educators and leaders. Their work has disrupted barriers, inspired change, and transformed the landscape of education, creating spaces where Black males can thrive and succeed.
We are honored to recognize the following Black male trailblazers individuals:
- Dr. Anthony Brown, Professor of Curriculum & Instruction in Social Studies Education, College of Education, The University of Texas at Austin; Co-founder and Co-Director of the Center for Innovation in Race, Teaching, & Curriculum; and Co-founder of the Teaching Texas Slavery Project
- Mr. Sharif El-Mekki, Founder/Chief Executive Officer, Center for Black Educator Development and Former U.S. Department of Education Principal Ambassador Fellow under the Obama Administration
- Dr. Roy Jones, Provost's Distinguished Professor, Educational Leadership, and Executive Director, Call Me MiSTER Program at Clemson University
- Dr. Chance Lewis, Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor of Urban Education and Director of The Urban Education Collaborative, University of North Carolina at Charlotte (Honoree Special Video Presentation)
- Dr. Marvin Lynn, Dean, School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) at the University of Colorado Denver
