Starting from Big Tree in Fernkloof, run up the jeep track, past Dynamite Factory, up the footpath to the Pipe Track and turn right towards the Three Dams.
We cross the Mossel River, zig-zagging up to the Pipe Track. Turn right and continue in an easterly direction.
At the turn off to Zig-Zag the Long route heads up and continues along the contour path and the short route heads down past the first concrete dam. The long route comes down from Pipe Track just above the two concrete dams, towards 11th Avenue, cutting off to the right along the cycle track.
Both routes follow the cycle track all the way back to 1st Avenue, where we join the road, turning left into 1st Street for a few hundred meters.
At the top of Reservoir Road, we turn right onto the jeep track towards the Three Dams. We take the second turn off (cycle track) to the left, tracking our way back over the Mossel River. Continue on the cycle track, through the ferns, back to base.
