About this Event
This one day carving class will focus on some basic carving strokes for spoon and utensil carving, carving safety, working with 'green' wood, and methodology for reduction of a blank into an utensil. We will have a demo and discussion on axe work, sharpening, and finishing of projects, but there will only be time to go over these parts briefly. We will work at carving a spoon with the later part of our day but participants will likely leave with a little work to do, but also with the know-how to carve in a more skilled, effective, and safe way in their future.
This class is for Ages 16 and up.
Materials Fee: $20 (to be paid directly to the instructor during class), This includes blanks for a butter knife and a spoon.
Nicholas will have knives for sale ($24, please bring cash). If folks would prefer to get a knife ahead of time, Nicholas asks participants to use Mora 120 carving knife. (Readily available on the internet)
Humble Oak Folk School will provide hearty snacks throughout the day. Please bring your own lunch for the Noon break and your water bottle.
Class will be limited to 9 students.
