In this full day workshop, rag-rugging expert Jill McCrink will introduce you to the methods she uses to create her unique rag rugs using a spring hook and 100% wool selvedge off-cuts from the UK blanket making industry.
You will be provided with all the materials you need to commence your own rug (including a spring hook and 2 balls of wool selvedge) and by the end of the day you should have mastered all the techniques you need to continue your rug in your own time, creating a sustainable heirloom inspired by local tradition. Additional balls of wool selvedge will also be available to purchase on the day to complete your rug.
What the class will show you:
- Rag rugging techniques to make both shaggy and short shaggy rugs
- How to use a spring hook
- Spacing of tufts
- Design elements to consider
Materials include:
Hessian mat
Spring hook
Wooden measure gauge
2 balls of wool selvedge (equal to approx. 500g of rag strips)
What you will need to bring:
Sharp scissors
