Experience Kamigatamai, traditional Japanese dance, through an introductory dance class. Together, we will move in a classical Japanese way. Japan has many kinds of traditional performing arts, and dance is deeply intertwined with them. Kamigatamai is one of many types of classical traditional Japanese dance with a history spanning hundreds of years. Kamigata is the traditional cultural areas of Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara. Mai means dance, especially referring to the calm and quiet dances taking place in indoor rooms called zashiki.
Kamigatamai has developed alongside the choreography of Kamigata kabuki theatrical performances.
We will learn more about traditional Japanese dance by trying it firsthand together at the event.
To fully enjoy the event, wearing comfortable clothes to move in is recommended.
The workshop will be in English.
