A note on who can attend:
I personally think that every birth worker, especially those working in hospital setting, should have this knowledge. That way if their clients have something like a breech baby, and doctor is saying “C-section only” the doula, nurse, family member can say, here’s the stats, here are your options with true informed consent. It’s also good knowledge to become familiar with what midwives do, so people can share with their clients.
Obviously, everyone should stay in their scope of practice. If a doula gets inspired at the training to become a midwife, great! We need more midwives.
I’m not a gate keeper, nor do I want to be. I think the only way we are going to change the world and help more women get out of the system is through knowledge, awareness, sharing, working together and spreading love.
That is why I have said all are welcome, from birth workers to parents.
If people feel like they shouldn’t attend, then they are right, they shouldn’t. If people are feeling called to attend, then they should.
