1) TRADITIONAL ARCHERY for kids and adults. Crooked Creek Archery is a new venture headed up by Parks and Recreation staff Kimberly Fulton and Kathy Skaggs. They've been teaching traditional archery to kids and adults for a combined 25+ years via church groups, scout camps and events, festivals, private lessons, and at the Berryville Community Center. They specialize in keeping things interesting, rotating a huge array of creative targets and techniques to keep kids engaged and having fun.
Can kids ages 8-13 really learn to shoot a "Robin Hood style" traditional bow accurately? They sure can. If your child is ready to unleash his or her inner Katniss/Wonder Woman/Merida/Hawkeye/Link or prepare for hunting season, sign up NOW for Session One (March 4-mid April, skipping Spring Break) and/or Session Two (April 15-mid May, ending before Memorial Day). It's guaranteed to be a good time! Wednesday after school from 4-5:30pm.
ALL equipment is provided-- just wear sturdy shoes and tie back long hair, and they'll take care of the rest!
2) TRADITIONAL ARCHERY for teens and adults, too! Crooked Creek Archery is also offering a four-lesson session for adults on Wednesday nights at the youth center via North Arkansas College's Community Education program. Whether you're looking to have fun, make new friends, learn a new lifelong sport, hone long-forgotten summer camp skills, or add to your hunting/survival abilities, you'll find what you need in this monthlong class... they'll provide all the gear and a variety of training techniques and targets that will get you a LONG ways in just four weeks! (The signup link via Northark is in the comments.) Wednesdays, 6-8pm.
(Do they ever offer private lessons, archery for parties, or special events, you ask? Yep-- they even have a safe archery setup for your little ones!) Contact them at [email protected].)
3) GYMNASTICS for kids age 3-13! Shimmer and Shine Gymnastics owner Cynthia Hardy retired from her central Arkansas gymnastics business and moved to Harrison, but she soon found herself starting small gymnastics programs in our area's little towns to help kids who'd otherwise never have a chance to be a gymnast. She and her customers came to Parks and Recreation asking for space so that some of her students wouldn't have to drive to Green Forest or Berryville for lessons. Balance beam, uneven bars, vault, and floor work... this is the real deal. She's teaching three different classes; each meets twice a week on Mondays and Fridays. Call Cynthia at 501-732-5212 to ask questions and see if there is space in your child's age level.
Space for all three of these opportunities are EXTREMELY limited due to the Youth Center's limited schedule and space. Don't delay if these classes sound like fun for you or your kids!
