Canada’s premier coloratura soprano Tracy Dahl has enjoyed a resplendent and diverse career that has taken her to the world’s most famous stages, including Teatro all Scala in Milan, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Sydney Opera House, Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Hollywood Bowl, and all major Canadian opera venues.
From her roots in musical theatre to renowned concert halls, Dahl has been extolled for her warm, elegant tone and her vocal agility. She has performed with such notable artists as Placido Domingo, Marilyn Horne, Renee Fleming and Maureen Forrester. From earlier comic roles, she went on to more signature roles in the lyric repertoire, including in Verdi’s Rigoletto and Strauss’ Ariadne of Naxos.Among her most frequently performed works are Orff’s Carmina Burana, Brahms’ Requiem, an American program of Gershwin and Bernstein, and Gilbert and Sullivan.
Voice teacher at the University of Manitoba, mentor for young artists’ programs across North America, Dahl is active in her community as a fundraiser to support charities, arts organizations and school music programs. Besides receiving many honours and recognitions, including three JUNO nominations, she was awarded the Order of Canada in 2017.
This recital will include art song–French mélodie and German Lied, a song cycle by American composer Tom Cipullo, John Greer’s A Sarah Binks Songbook (The Sweet Songstress of Saskatchewan), as well as selections from musical theatre and opera.
