Tracing Aboriginal family history: National Family History Month

The State Library and Archives of Tasmania has a range of resources to assist you with your Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family history research.

Some of these records include births, deaths and marriages records, military service records, information about Missions, and the Stolen Generations.

This session offers a starting point for those wanting to begin researching Aboriginal family history as well as an explanation of the tools and resources available to everyone at the State Library and Archives of Tasmania.

Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer Kylie Dickson, and other members of the State Library and Archives of Tasmania's training team will host this session.

The State Library and Archives of Tasmania respectfully advises that some of the records included in this session may include images, voices, and names of people who have passed away.

Some content in the collection includes past views, descriptions of actions and language that are not considered acceptable today.

We present items with care and respect, acknowledging their cultural significance, especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

These resources are presented as part of the record of the past; contemporary users should interpret the work within that context.

This event is part of National Family History Month at the State Library and Archives of Tasmania.
