The Tower Insurance Tower of Refuge walk is back and will be taking place on Sunday 27th April. Big thank you to Emmet, Richard and all of the amazing team at Tower Insurance for their fantastic and continued support. The RNLI will be in attendance on the evening collecting for their wonderful charity.
Built on Conister Rock in Douglas in 1832, the construction of the Tower was the idea of Sir William Hillary, founder of the RNLI and a one-time member of the Douglas lifeboat crew.
Designed as a shelter for the crews of vessels which were wrecked on the nearby reef, the Tower in Douglas Bay can only be reached on foot during certain tidal conditions.
Weather permitting the walk will commence around 5:40pm to 6:00pm. The main access point to the beach will be via the steps at the Bottleneck car park. All other steps along Loch Promenade will be open but please be sure to be careful and stay away from the edge of the steps by staying to the left when going down and to the right when going up.
Big thank you to Kev Scott and his fantastic team at The Coastguard for their amazing support and for keeping us all safe on the night.
Please be advised that if you are taking part in the walk, suitable footwear is a must!!!!
Please also note that dogs are more than welcome to attend. All that we ask is that they are kept on their lead and any mess they make is cleared up.
We look forward to seeing you on 27th April!!!!!
