About this Event
Presented in partnership with the Powell Street Festival Society
Join us at the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre for a very special evening as we host the Canadian debut tour of TOW, the ethereal acoustic duo from the Tokyo area.
Experience TOW's cinematic blend of voice, guitar, and accordion—music that feels both ethereal and deeply story-driven—live in the intimate setting of the NNMCC.
The Burnaby Exclusive: A Bridge of Tradition and Artistry
This performance is the middle stop on TOW's inaugural three-city Canadian tour and features a unique opening act that bridges traditional and contemporary Japanese artistry:
- Opening Performance: Enjoy the vibrant sounds of Southern Wave Okinawan Music and Dance Society. They'll showcase the rich, joyful tradition of Okinawa folk music, setting a perfect, celebratory stage for the main event.
About TOW
TOW is an acoustic duo whose captivating music evokes ancient Japanese scenery while remaining uniquely their own. The core of the ensemble includes:
- Nue: Vocalist and accordion player, whose strong, clear voice transports listeners to unknown places.
- Kai: Guitarist, weaving songs with an emotional sensibility that invites the audience into a spiral of dynamics.
TOW has garnered significant attention in Japan, appearing as regular performers at events produced by respected Tokyo music curators, MoreThanMusic. Their artistic reach extends to the video game world, where their music is known for creating deeply immersive soundscapes. They created the acclaimed soundtrack and theme song for the Nintendo Switch/PC game Sumire (GameTomo Inc) and are currently at work on the soundtrack for the action-adventure game Glaciered (Studio Snowblind).
Don't miss this unique opportunity to experience the cinematic, evocative music of TOW in a setting that celebrates Japanese Canadian heritage and culture.
