About this Event

On Fridays and Saturdays, the Hispanic Society Museum and Library hosts highlights tours of our exhibitions, free and open to the public, thanks to the generous support from New York State Council of the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

PLEASE NOTE: Prior registration is necessary. Space is limited. If you are a group with six people or more, please email [email protected] to make a separate arrangement.

The tours will address select artworks from our current exhibition cycle:

Adriana Varejão: Don’t Forget, We Come From the Tropics -- Featuring new paintings from Adriana Varejão’s Plate series and a site-specific outdoor sculptural intervention. A range of ceramic plates from the HSM&L’s collection will be on view, rising provocative questions about the hierarchies of aesthetics.

Sorolla's Vision of Spain -- The monumental series of 14 paintings known as Vision of Spain by the Valencian master Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida. A truly unique, immersive experience that captures the essence of turn-of-the-century rural Spain.

The Colorful World of Pancho Fierro, Afro-Peruvian Painter -- Drawing from the Hispanic Society’s collection of works by Fierro and his school, the exhibition invites viewers to experience the racially, ethnically, and economically diverse life of nineteenth-century Lima. On view will be Fierro’s rarely-exhibited scroll depicting Lima’s Holy Week procession. At 15 ½ feet long, the scroll presents a proto-cinematic view of one of the city’s most exuberant cultural events. (closes April 20th)

Out of the Closets! Into the Streets!: New York City’s Pride March 1975-1976 -- Photographs of the Christopher Street Liberation Day Marches of 1975 and 1976 by Francisco Alvarado-Juárez. The exhibition constitutes the second installment of the annual series Arte en el Alto Manhattan which highlights artists residing in Upper Manhattan. (opens May 8th)

Sculptures on the Audubon Terrace -- Immerse yourself in Penetrable, an interactive sculpture created by Jesús Rafael Soto, as well as our sculpture program featuring El Cid, by Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington.
