UTC+10:00Location
El Alamein Fountain | Surry Hills, NS
Start at 4pm, end at 6pm.
In the evening, on June 24, 1978 the police brutally assaulted the 'gay and lesbian' (as it was called then) parade at Kings Cross, at the El Alamein Fountain.
What led to vicious police brutality against the LGBTIQA+ movement on June 24, 1978? How did the movement respond? What lessons can we draw for todays campaigns for trans-rights and against war and for international solidarity?
Join rebel 78ers to find out the real history of Mardi Gras.
Green Left is co-ordinating this tour. Others TBC.
We will hear from 78er Mark Gillespie and others, plus sex worker organisers about the last 50 years of rebel history in the Kings Cross area, the LGBTIQA+ community and the civil rights movement.
Various ticket prices from $5 upwards. Monies going to Green Left and Pride In Protest. All welcome.
