About this Event

Find out more about the various gardens and green spaces at Westminster Abbey, which formed an intrinsic part of the monastic layout. Discover how they still flourish to this day in the heart of London, carefully tended by an enthusiastic horticultural team.

On this 60-minute tour you will see:

  • Dean's Yard, a historic green space tucked away within the Abbey's precincts.
  • Cloister Garth, with its memorial fountain commemorating Lancelot Capability Brown.
  • College Garden, the country's oldest cultivated garden, which was used in monastic times to grow food and medicinal herbs. Includes a visit to the Abbey's beautiful greenhouse, dating from 1929.
  • Little Cloister Garth, a tranquil oasis with a fountain, originally set aside for recouperation after illness.
  • St Catherine's Chapel Garden, created within the ruins of a chapel.
