Touchstones of Democracy: Democracy and Capitalism

Can Democracy and Capitalism Be Reconciled? is the question at the heart of a new book from Oxford University Press that explores the meaning of both democracy and capitalism and considers their inherent tensions. Didi Kuo, fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University and contributor to the book, and UVA Darden School of Business assistant professor Scott C. Miller, director of the Karsh Institute’s Democracy and Capitalism Lab and co-editor of the book, explore the main ideas and themes in this collection of essays, including how political economies could be reformed to bring them more in line with their values such that democracy and capitalism could better coexist.

The conversation is moderated by UVA professor of politics Sidney Milkis, also a co-editor of the book.
