Join us for a fun and informative tortilla making workshop! "Maize-ologists" and hosts of the workshop Gustavo and Kate Romero own the acclaimed Oro by Nixta, a masa restaurant and kitchen in Northeast Minneapolis celebrating and preserving heirloom Mexican corn.
As part of LNA's 2026 Summer Workshop Series, learn from expert chefs about the process of nixtamalizing maize–soaking the grain in an alkaline solution–a process dating back to 1500 BCE in Mesoamerica.
What you can expect:
A live tortilla-making demonstration
English, Spanish, and Somali interpretation
Tortillas to eat with veggie filling and drinks
Childcare and activities for ages 2 and older
The workshop is free to attend. There will be a suggested donation of $10 at the event.
