Toowoomba Birdwatching Getaway

Escape the city for a weekend of exploring the birdlife of Toowoomba and the scenic Darling Downs. Moving through a beautiful mix of dry rainforest, open woodland, and escarpment country, we will search for regional specialties you won't easily find in Brisbane.
The main adventure kicks off Saturday afternoon with prime birding, followed by an optional group dinner and an exciting nocturnal walk. Sunday morning we’ll explore a different site, followed by late-morning roadside birding. We’ll finish around midday to beat the traffic back to Brisbane.
As a bonus, you can arrive early for an optional pre-event stroll through the local gardens to enjoy the tail end of the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers without the crowds.
🎟️ Ticketing
This is a paid event, and ticket fees cover overheads and insurance only. To keep ticket prices low and allow everyone flexibility with their own requirements, all transportation, accommodation, and meals are to be arranged and paid for by participants. This event is open to members who’ve attended at least one previous walk. Registered attendees will receive the full itinerary two weeks before the event.
🏡 Accommodation & Travel
All activities take place around Toowoomba and Oakey, as it is a fair drive from Brisbane — and Sunday starts early — we strongly recommend staying locally.
👟 Accessibility
Birdwatchers of all skill levels are welcome. Walks kept short (under 3 km), typically last 2 hours, are fairly flat (no climbs over 100 m), and use a mix of sealed and unsealed tracks. The group travels at a birdwatching pace.
