We are grateful to announce the first ever Portland performance by one of our favorite musical ensembles, Lithuanian duo Merope (Stroom), in collaboration with lauded multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily & featuring a special DJ set by Spencer D (Visible Cloaks). Merope will bring their gorgeous ethereal, experimental folk sounds to maps goodspace on August 30th from 7 to 10pm for a dreamy midsummer evening of future ancient Baltic melodies.
"Merope’s roots lie deep in the soil of Lithuania's folk songs, connecting them with ideas from across the cultural map. Diving into ancestral words and melodies, they present contemporary vision of ancient Baltic music. Tangling elements gleaned from jazz, traditional, ambient music, 20th century minimalism and kosmische into their moving, humanist compositions, they provide a soundtrack for today's international landscape.”
