Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing & Health Sciences is proud to sponsor the return of the Tomboy Sawyer Contest to Hannibal's National Tom Sawyer Days!
The Tomboy Sawyer Contest will be held on July 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with day of registration from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. The contest is open to girls ages 9–13. Participation is limited to 30 contestants, with 10 spots reserved for the day of the event registration. Pre-registration is recommended. The contest will be held at the Rotary Pavilion on the riverfront in Hannibal, MO.
Contestants will compete in a variety of classic Tomboy Sawyer events, including:
- Minnow Catch
- Watermelon Seed Spitting
- Bubble Gum Blowing
- Gunny Sack Race
- Slingshot Target Shooting
Winners of each event will receive a ribbon. Points earned throughout the competition will determine the overall Tomboy Sawyer Champion, as well as the 2nd and 3rd place runners-up, who will receive prizes.
A Tomboy Sawyer Costume Contest will also be held, with a prize awarded to the contestant who best captures the spirit and appearance of Tom Sawyer.
Participants receive a point for the following:
- Corn cob pipe
- Plaid/gingham shirt (any color)
- Cut off pants/jeans
- Rope for belt
- Freckles (real or painted on)
- Wood fishing pole with a worm
- Metal bucket
- Bandage on toe
- Rubber/plastic frog/snake
- Bag of marbles
- Slingshot in back pocket
Extra points awarded for additional "Tom Sawyer" items.
NO GLASS ITEMS for safety purposes.
As a special thank-you for participating, each contestant will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
