About this Event
Toast Marshmallows While You Burn Your Chametz!
On your most hectic day of the year, why trek to Brighton to burn your chametz? This year you can do it with the Adams Street Shul right here in Newton!
In partnership with the Newton Fire Department, we will be safely toasting kosher marshmallows and burning chametz.
The historic Adams Street Shul was already world-famous in Newton. Now you have one more reason to visit!
On Friday, April 11, we will be open from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. (The last time to own chametz is 11:39 AM.)
Come on over!
Frequently Asked Questions:
What am I allowed to burn?
Burn your dry low-density chametz, such as bread, crackers, cookies, etc. (You are also encouraged to burn dried lulavs and esrogs.) Remove your chametz from any plastic bags or aluminum foil before burning. There will be trash bins for that.
What am I not allowed to burn?
Do not throw frozen challah or pasta into the fire. Use the bins for that. (Throw only dry, low-density chametz into the fire.)
Why must I remove my chametz from plastic bags or aluminum foil before throwing into the fire?
Plastic bags and aluminum foil smother the fire and also release toxic fumes.
Will the Newton Fire Department be supervising this?
Yes. This event is supervised by a detail from the Newton Fire Department.
