In this special lecture, join Dr. Haley Omeasoo of the Montana Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) Advisory Council and Ohkomi Forensics, based in Missoula, MT. Ohkomi Forensics is a nonprofit organization that provides valuable services for MMIP cases, particularly in areas where resources are often scarce, including fieldwork, excavation, forensic anthropology, and DNA testing. Organizations like Ohkomi play a crucial role in helping to recover MMIP victims and promote justice.Ohkomi Forensics proudly stands as the nation’s unique forensics organization committed to MMIP. It operates through state-of-the-art facilities in partnership with the University of Montana, where Omeasoo has assembled a dedicated team of volunteers. These talented individuals bring diverse skills in skeletal trauma analysis, juvenile osteology, and forensic investigative genetic genealogy to support field searches for missing persons and forensic DNA casework. Ohkomi means “to use one's voice” in the Blackfeet language, symbolizing their vital advocacy for MMIP and community outreach.
