Plunging clean‑tech costs are transforming global energy—& Canada must navigate the risks, opportunities, & geopolitics of this disruption.
About this Event

Join us for a TISED Distinguished Lecture with Markham Hislop, Canadian energy journalist and founder of Energi Media, followed by more than 55,000 readers and viewers for his clear, data driven analysis of the global energy transition.

In this lecture, Hislop will examine how rapidly declining clean technology costs are reshaping the global energy system. Rather than a simple shift from one fuel to another, he argues that solar, wind, batteries, EVs, heat pumps, and new industrial processes are driving a structural transformation that is outpacing the ability of legacy institutions to adapt.

Hislop will also explore what this disruption means for Canada, a hydrocarbon anchored economy navigating emerging clean tech value chains, electrified industry, shifting global demand, and a changing geopolitical landscape shaped by new alliances and industrial policy.

A cocktail reception will follow, offering an opportunity to meet the speaker and connect with colleagues.

Moderated by Dr. Bruce Lourie - President, Ivey Foundation & TISED Professor of Practice

Markham Hislop

Markham Hislop is a Canadian energy journalist and founder of Energi Media, now in its 18th year. He is best known for his long-form interviews of international energy experts and his data and evidence-driven analysis of energy systems and the global transition to low-carbon technologies. But Markham has also contributed interesting work on energy transition theory, albeit with a journalism focus. His work focuses on technology disruption, electrification, geopolitics, and the structural forces reshaping oil, gas, and power markets. With a background in public policy and decades of experience in journalism, Markham brings clarity and skepticism to complex energy debates. He is widely recognized for identifying emerging trends early and framing them in ways that influence public discourse, helping audiences understand how technology, economics, and policy intersect in the evolving global energy system.
