About this Event
Join us to get your week started with a jolt of creativity as we hear Russell Lehrer discuss the famed author, illustrator, and designer Edward Gorey. Gorey's original work is featured In the Company of Still Life.
An advisor to the Edward Gorey Charitable Trust, Russell was the featured guest and curator for the Trust's inaugural Summer Cocktail Fundraiser at The Strand Bookstore in 2023 and provided supplemental research for Carol Verberg's The Theatrical Adventures of Edward Gorey. Most recently, for the Society of Illustrators in New York City he co-curated Something Else Entirely: The Illustration Art of Edward Gorey, the first retrospective of Gorey's fifty-year career as a collaborative illustrator.
Tiny Talks are short talks by artists and friends sharing their creative inspiration. The talk is free and begins at 11 AM. Afterwards, browse our galleries to see our spring exhibitions alongside fellow art lovers.
ArtYard opens at 10:50 a.m.

More about Russell Lehrer
Russell has managed to parlay a degree in biomedical chemical engineering into a three-decade career in theater, highlights of which include renovating the landmarked Virgina (now August Wilson) Theatre and assisting Tony Award winning director Jerry Zaks for eight years on seven Broadway musicals and plays, one Oscar-nominated movie and an Emmy-award winning sitcom. Having served as a chief negotiator and regional director for Actors’ Equity Association, Russell is currently the national researcher for the nation’s oldest labor union for professional stage managers and actors, harkening back to his earliest position as researcher for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History where he specialized in musicals and American popular song. He is an avid quilter and potter living in Jersey City with David Rosen, his husband of 25 years, where they are renovating their historic row house which houses their eclectic art collection focusing on illustrators Edward Gorey, Maxfield Parrish, Maurice Sendak, Arnold Lobel, Tomie DePaola, James Marshall, Stephanie Krause, and Robert Christie.
