In May of 2023, we unexpectedly and tragically lost one of my twin babies, Piper, in utero at 31 weeks. I was placed on constant monitoring and bedrest until our survivor, Juniper, was safely delivered 10 days following and then spent 29 days in the NICU. This pain was and is incomprehensible, and no parent should ever have to go through it. Sadly, the rates of miscarriages, neonatal loss, and infant loss are higher than most think, and it's something that isn't often talked about.
When we were going through this nightmare, it helped to have support of individuals who have had similar experiences, as well support from the staff at the hospital, both in labor & delivery and in the NICU.
My goal with this race is to honor our daughter and the other babies who never got to come earth side, and those who left earth far too soon. 🦋👼🏽💜
Proceeds will be donated to Covenant NICU, Covenant Bereavement program, and one other local charity that supports grieving parents and families.
The race is in Midland, MI, and begins and ends at St. Charles Park, utilizing the Pere Marquette Rail Trail and the Tridge. Strollers are welcome. Dogs are allowed on the trail, but must be on a leash.
