Tin Embossing: Swallow Hanging Mobile
About this Event
Join Leeds-based multidisciplinary artist Gemma Barnett for a hands-on kinetic mobile-making workshop inspired by the asymmetrical style of Alexander Calder. In this session, we will craft unique, air-propelled sculptures that balance gracefully while capturing the beauty of swallows and swifts.
Unlike Calder’s abstract approach, our hanging mobiles will feature detailed, tin-embossed swallows and swifts, celebrating the presence of these magnificent birds in the UK.
- Part One: Tin Embossing: We will begin by creating our birds using professional tin embossing techniques to add texture and detail to each figure.
- Part Two: Construction: We will then assemble our asymmetrical hanging mobiles using craft wire and a variety of hand-held tools.
Suitable for Beginners / Bird templates & all other materials provided (We will be using gold coloured aluminum sheets & craft wire).
Please note that we will take a short lunch break of approximately 20 minutes at 12:30 PM. You are welcome to bring your own snacks, head off-site, or enjoy a 10% discount at our coffee shop.
