Family Robotics and Coding Session
About this Event
This family-friendly Saturday morning drop-in session offers children, young people and their families an accessible introduction to coding and robotics.
Using Ohbot’s block-based coding environment, which is similar to Scratch and requires no previous coding experience, participants will explore how code can bring a robot to life through speech, movement and expressive reactions.
Families can experiment with pre-built starter projects, including:
- A Story Robot that reads a story aloud and responds with expressive reactions
- A Study Buddy that asks questions, keeps score and offers encouragement
Participants can follow the guided activities, adapt the projects or develop their own creative ideas with support from the event team.
As this is a drop-in session, families can arrive at any point during the advertised event time and take part at their own pace. You can stay for a short activity or spend longer developing and testing your creation.
There is no competition or formal judging. The focus is on experimenting, learning together and having fun. Families will be welcome to informally share what they have created with other participants during the session.
No previous coding or robotics experience is required.
