Timeless Traditions: Celebrating Japanese History & Culture

Join the Southeast Museum of Photography for an event with special guest Satomi Hirano, a renowned Japanese classical dancer and certified kimono stylist. Satomi Hirano will introduce audiences to Wakayagi-Ryu, a type of Japanese dance that involves the use of a folding fan (sensu) as an essential prop. Wakayagi-Ryu is known for its dynamic style and focus on expressive movements that can depict nature (falling rain or waves) and emotions.

A portion of the program will involve the art of styling and wearing a kimono, and audience participation will be encouraged.
