Foraging for wild food connects you to place in a most delicious and intimate journey. Enjoy an evening with Jennifer Hahn, a foraging grandmother, solo kayak expedition paddler, Pacific Crest hiker, and Fairhaven College teacher of a popular wild food course. Jennifer will share slides and stories of forty years of sustainable foraging adventures afoot and afloat. Learn about how to sustainably harvest a myriad of coastal edible wild foods including nettles, sea lettuce, kelp, chocolate clams, oyster mushrooms, fir tree tips, lady ferns, fireweed shoots (like asparagus!), black cap berries and a bushel of nutrient-dense common weeds such as invasive knotweed. You’ll also enjoy “meeting” Indigenous traditional foods teachers and learning tips from coastal food experts, plus timely climate change updates, news on nutrition and potential pollutants, and science-based information on what animals also depend on these foods for food and shelter. After diving into this evening with popcorn “SEA-soned” with local kelp, you are sure to gain a new appreciation of the nature that surrounds and nourishes you.

**Jennifer Hahn**
Jennifer Hahn teaches sustainable wild food harvesting at Western Washington University’s Fairhaven College. A naturalist and guide in Southeast Alaska and the Inside Passage, Hahn lives in Bellingham, Washington with her potter husband and a berry-eating hound. Hahn recently lead a research study on Salish Sea Seaweeds and their beneficial chemicals and contaminant levels with the help of 18 Salish Sea Tribes and First Nations. She divides her time between writing, sea kayaking, hiking, foraging, cooking crazy-delicious dishes with her buddies and family. Hahn has a closet affair with a Miller Welding Machine. That’s the topic of her next book.
